Similar in appearance to small onions, shallots are a seasoning bulb and have a milder flavour than onions. They are easier to peel than onions without the strong odor and tear - inducing qualities and display purple - pink internal colour when cut.
Their distinctive, almost nutty taste is gaining increasing popularity in both traditional French and modern cuisine.
Field Fresh Tasmania Shallots are grown from seed in rich, volcanic soils of the State's North West Coast with plentiful sunshine and long hours of Summer light - ideal conditions for enhancing the shallots distinct flavors.
